WHAT IS IT?

The Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) for England (QCF) is a credit based qualification and is the required qualification for registration and regulatory requirements in the social care sector in England.  Carers working in this industry are required to have this qualification as the minimum level of qualification.

The qualifications aim to guide and assess the development of knowledge and skills relating to the health and social care workforce.  These qualifications confirm competence in areas of health and social care where appropriate.

WHO IS IT FOR & WHAT OPPORTUNITIES ARE THERE?

This qualification is a starting point for anyone considering a career in health and social care.

If you are:

  • looking for a career that gives you flexibility to balance work and family life or
  • just prefer to work when it suits you or
  • just looking for part –time work to supplement your existing job or
  • Looking to set up your own business e.g nursing or residential home

then a qualification in health and social care, can help you achieve this.  There are a range of work opportunities in health and social care, these include:

  • Care assistants/support workers/key workers in residential settings,
  • domiciliary services, or day services
  • Healthcare assistants/support workers in community and primary care environments or acute health environments
  •  Support workers in supported living projects
  • Community-based care assistants/ support workers/key workers, including those working in specialist areas eg dementia, learning disabilities also known as Domiciliary Care Workers or Home care workers
  • Personal assistants employed directly by the individual they support or their families (Live in Carers)
  • Emerging new types of workers and multidisciplinary health roles crossing traditional service barriers and delivery models
  • Residential or Nursing home owner

COURSE OVERVIEW/STUDY MODE

The qualification consists of

  • a minimum of 46 credits altogether
  •  nine mandatory units totalling 24credits
  • and a choice of optional knowledge and competence units covering different areas of health and social care such as supporting person-centred approaches, advocacy, health care, supporting those with disabilities, learning disabilities or dementia.

5. PRINCIPLES OF SAFEGUARDING AND PROTECTION IN HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE

6. THE ROLE OF THE HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE WORKER

7. IMPLEMENT PERSON CENTRED APPROACHES IN HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE

8. CONTRIBUTE TO HEALTH AND SAFETY IN HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE

Entry Requirements

There are no particular minimum entry requirements but this qualification is designed for all learners aged 16 and above who are capable of reaching the required standards.

This qualification can be studied as part of an intermediate apprenticeship programme
